By land or Sea Release Party (0)

es,yes on Saturday night By Land Or Sea had the release party of their album " Hell Broke Loose", both floors of The Colony Cafe found themselves covered with all sorts of friends, family, strangers and long time fans. There was plenty of dancing but, with a line up of The Paper Planets(http://www.myspace.com/thepaperplanets), Nightmares for a week(http://www.myspace.com/nightmaresforaweek) and then By Land or Sea(http://www.myspace.com/bylandorsea) who could really contain there body movements with such musicians playing!. unfortunately I had never been to a  Nightmares for a week previously and did not bring enough tape to film their performance. But everyone should say a big congratulations to By Land Or Sea for finishing " Hell Broke Loose" and go BUY the album at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/ByLandorSea/from/viglink

My second Published article! (0)

Here's my second article as a intern for the Daily Freeman!
http://dailyfreeman.com/articles/2010/04/25/entertainment/doc4bd2669f1d516608414729.txt

Kingston High School is having its third annual Battle of the Bands on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the high school auditorium at 403 Broadway in the city.

Ten bands auditioned and six were selected to play for the prize of $200. They were chosen based on their quality of sound, organization, lyrical appropriateness, timeliness. To qualify, at least one band member from each band had to be a student of the high school.

Performing bands will include The Paper Planets of Woodstock, Depot Street of Saugerties, Coprolite of Kingston, Seminal Stain of Kingston, Y.I.C of Kingston and if all else fails of Kingston.

The line up for the night of the 29th is said to start with an adult band — with two out of the three members being Kingston High school teachers. Then if all else fails will perform, followed by Coprolite, Y.I.C., Seminal Stain, The Paper Planets and Depot Street.

All of the seniors that are taking Matthew DiDonna’s civics class will have to participate in the event to complete their community service partition grade.

“All of the students were assigned specific jobs — including event managers, band contractors, security, band roadies, ticket sales, internal promoters, external promoters, program creators, T-shirt design and T-shirt sales,” said DiDonna, a social studies teacher and Class of 2012 adviser and Battle of the Bands coordinator.

“The hardest step of the Battle of the Bands is raising money for the sound equipment,” DiDonna said. “But this year we had a vast amount of support from the community ... having well over 50 sponsors all producing $25 to $50 donations.”

This year’s proceeds are going to benefit former Kingston High School student Keith Gurgui. Gurgui, a 2009 graduate of the high school, suffered a spinal cord injury in a swimming accident last summer. He is scheduled to attend the event.

DiDonna said that the event previously raised money for Family of Woodstock and the Children’s Annex. “We only sold 350 tickets” in the first year, DiDonna said, adding that the following year, almost all of the 700 tickets were sold. “We are hoping that this year will be the most successful year yet,” he said.

Tickets are $9 at the door and $7 in advance, to purchase tickets in advance call DiDonna at (845) 331- 1970. Labels:

R.I.P.Ask For Lisa 5/5/2007-4/21/2010 (0)

So after four beautiful years of the Noah Bowman,Eli Cohen, Harry Basch and Trevor Stannus being Ask For Lisa it is time to call it quits. I found out yesterday and was deeply saddened, but not to say surprised. After watching these boys grow into the boy-ish men they are, I and a few others new it was soon the end. With everyone having  such different personality's and music interests it was the right time. They will still be putting out there newest songs "Brain Track and Watered flowers" but after that don't expect anything new for the rest off music existence. I am so disappointed to see these boys break up mainly because they ARE the band that inspired me to start " Young Eight Four Five". So let us remember them as the wonderful band they have always shown us to be <3

The Paper Planets at the final round! (0)

The Paper Planets gave it there all on Sunday at 830 for the final round of The Break Contest, They had a decent size crowd that showed them so much support. With a set list of Rise Up, Lack of a solider ,unity-Operation ivy cover, a Island theme song without a name and California Bound they were pulling for a win!
Unfortunately the judges did not feel the same, with giving them scores of "7.5, 7 and 8 and comments saying they needed to be more like "Jason Marz", who knows what the judges were thinking!
So here are the two videos from their performance!

SOUNDS OF SUMMER by Lauren Tischler

http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/playlist/SUMMER+2/27247224

Summer; everyone's favorite season. If you are immersed in tasteful conversation with a friend or loved one, there is a large chance that nearby ears will catch speak of summer album releases, and perhaps familiar phrases such as "lalapalooza." That's right, the musical pleasures of summer are right around the corner. With album releases expected from Hot Hot Heat (The Beeds), LCD Soundsystem (This is Happening), and Marina and the Diamonds (the Family Jewels,) Summer of 2010 has potential to be extremely friendly to our lovely little listening perceivers. As well as Chicago's biggest music festival, all you Californians should surely be excited for the annual and prestigious Coachella. This year, Coachella boasts big names such as MGMT, Grizzly Bear, Jay-Z, and even 80's superstars DEVO (and yes, from a show i experienced a few months ago, they will still be rocking the white jumpsuits in their old age.) But as well as festivals do their job in bringing indie bands out of their club scene closet, 2010 holds some wonderful summer tours for us. Folk gods Blitzen Trapper announced a 15 stop tour earlier this month, while Europeans will be blessed with the presence of the Dirty Projectors in early july. Alas, music is not the only sensory treat of the season. For all of you who dread sitting in a dark theater with unfamiliar faces, summer marks the opening of your local Drive In Theater. This year, you can bathe in the sun while enjoying awaited films such as Michael Cera's latest work, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, where he plays the same awkward, closeted sex fiend we all love so dearly, plus a few sucker punches and comic book inspired visuals. I as well recommend taking your time to see The Living Wake, a quirkier, almost upbeat version of 2007's Wristcutters, which breaks the fourth wall quite a bit and stars Adventureland's Jesse Eisenberg.

So with all of this and then some to look forward to, I took the opportunity to make my first submission to Obscure Sound as a contributing writer a playlist full of sunny sounds that i hope will fire you up for Summer 2010. With music from artists both old and new, known and unknown, I handpicked the work that most led me to reminisce of sunscreen, late night bonfires, and sand covered skin. The playlist consists of reggae roots from Slightly Stoopid, sunny synth leads from Phoenix, light love ballads from the Maccabees and the Temper Trap, and of course catchy head boppers provided by Rilo Kiley, the Arctic Monkeys, and much more. From the bottom of my summer filled heart, I invite you to adopt this playlist as the anthem of your much deserved summer; enjoy.

April 10 2010 Basment Show! (0)

So yesterdays show at The Basement went really well,it was beautiful out and a huge crowd showed up. But with only one blood shed and only one swollen pair of testicles the injures were set on minimum. Bands that played were Taxi to Alaska of Pine Bush, Eurydice of Kingston,  Half of Our Only Reason of Clinton Corners, Through the Facade of Saugerties, Without Sanity, Through the Flood and Anthelia. This was the first Hardcore show that i've filmed in months but for some reason it went unbelievable well! Taxi to Alaska and Through the Facade both used some sort of lighting when playing so it worked well with my camera and the crowd. So now see for yourself!

KINGSTON — Several young hardcore rock bands are throwing a benefit concert today to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s 2010 Relay For Life.

Performing bands are Taxi to Alaska of Pine Bush, Eurydice of Kingston, Our Only Reason of Clinton Corners, Through the Facade of Saugerties, Without Sanity, Through the Flood and Anthelia. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. today at The Basement, 744 Broadway.

All the bands are fairly new to the hardcore music scene — Eurydice formed in July; Taxi to Alaska formed at the end of August and Our Only Reason and Through the Facade have been together for just more than a year.

The bands interviewed said they enjoy the Kingston venue. “It’s local for us and we have big crowds ever show. And the owner (Robert Stango) is a very nice guy and fun to work with,” said Through the Facade’s Keith Bronson, 16, of Saugerties High School via e-mail. “We focus the most on the guitar because we are a three-piece (band), so it needs to sound full.

“Crowds at our shows are very intense,” Bronson said. “We have a lot of people at once constantly moving, and they know words to our songs and do chants with us.”

Through the Facade is a Saugerties hardcore and metal band. The band’s songs mainly focus on life and involve many breakdowns.Other band members are Josh Kirkpatrick, 17, of Saugerties on vocals and guitar; Keith Bronson Jr., 16, of Saugerties on vocals and drums; Mike Lang, 16 from Saugerties on bass.

“We’re playing with a bunch of really good local bands that we love sharing the stage with,” Eurydice said in a prepared statement. Eurydice is known for its energetic and crowd-pleasing performances. The band has performed at The Basement and the Crocodile Rock CafĂ© in Allentown, Pa.

Members of the band include Brandon Lane, 18, Port Ewen, on guitar; Victor Garcia, 20, of Kingston, on bass; Matthew Locke, 16, of Kingston High School, on drums; Justin Frangello, 20, of Kingston, on guitar; and Jo-Wee Mendock, 20, of Kingston, on vocals.

Our Only Reason drummer Andrew Kyle Bernard, 19, said in an e-mail that his band wanted to participate, “To support whatever the cause is and to see all my friends and favorite local bands.” Our Only Reason, from Dutchess County, is known for its a loud sound and energetic performances. Band members include Billy Rowan on bass; Russ McCabe on vocals; Joshua Muise on rhythm guitar; Robbie Rende on lead guitar; and Andrew Kyle Bernard on drums.

Tickets are $8. The event is open to all ages, so the bar will only serve non-alcoholic beverages.

Ethan Barnett is a student at Rondout Valley High School.
