Hardcore loving (0)

So last night at The Chance Complex there was a assortment of bands playing at The Chance, I was there to cover The Last Of Our Kind( http://www.myspace.com/tlook) a hardcore band out of Poughkeepsie with a serious sound. They played around 7 o clock on The Chance's main stage, put on a excellent show getting the crowd pumped up and dancing for their whole set. Then later that night Our Last Night(http://www.myspace.com/ourlastnight) and We Came As Romans(http://www.myspace.com/wecameasromans) Played so here are the photos of them.

Lester Bangs ((December 13, 1948 – April 30, 1982) (0)

today is the anniversary of Lester Bangs death , he's the most celebrated of rock writer in my opinion of all time. With his excellent knowledge of the 70's rock rebels and poppy princesses it put him on top through out the 1970's; in the eyes of journalists and readers all over the country.  However when  he overdosed in March of 82 and his life was ended to a batch of Darvon, Valium and NyQuil, it was as if the music had died a few years previously and he was just making his last "ha raw". I'm 100% sure if Bangs was still alive to this day he would be truly disappointed in the way the music has dived into a pit of whinny adolescents and immature personality'
s. But on the other hand he never really felt that "rock stars" were more then just mere people with above average day jobs.

"Well basically I just started out to lead [an interview] with the most insulting question I could think of. Because it seemed to me that the whole thing of interviewing as far as rock stars and that was just such a suck-up. It was groveling obeisance to people who weren't that special, really. It's just a guy, just another person, so what?" -Lester Bangs quoted in a interview

Here's a clip from the movie Almost Famous that came out in 2000 portraying Lester.

And here's his voice in  a snip-it from a interview he did in the late 70's about technology.

RIP.

es,yes on Saturday night By Land Or Sea had the release party of their album " Hell Broke Loose", both floors of The Colony Cafe found themselves covered with all sorts of friends, family, strangers and long time fans. There was plenty of dancing but, with a line up of The Paper Planets(http://www.myspace.com/thepaperplanets), Nightmares for a week(http://www.myspace.com/nightmaresforaweek) and then By Land or Sea(http://www.myspace.com/bylandorsea) who could really contain there body movements with such musicians playing!. unfortunately I had never been to a  Nightmares for a week previously and did not bring enough tape to film their performance. But everyone should say a big congratulations to By Land Or Sea for finishing " Hell Broke Loose" and go BUY the album at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/ByLandorSea/from/viglink

My second Published article! (0)

Here's my second article as a intern for the Daily Freeman!

Kingston High School is having its third annual Battle of the Bands on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the high school auditorium at 403 Broadway in the city.

Ten bands auditioned and six were selected to play for the prize of $200. They were chosen based on their quality of sound, organization, lyrical appropriateness, timeliness. To qualify, at least one band member from each band had to be a student of the high school.

Performing bands will include The Paper Planets of Woodstock, Depot Street of Saugerties, Coprolite of Kingston, Seminal Stain of Kingston, Y.I.C of Kingston and if all else fails of Kingston.

The line up for the night of the 29th is said to start with an adult band — with two out of the three members being Kingston High school teachers. Then if all else fails will perform, followed by Coprolite, Y.I.C., Seminal Stain, The Paper Planets and Depot Street.

All of the seniors that are taking Matthew DiDonna’s civics class will have to participate in the event to complete their community service partition grade.

“All of the students were assigned specific jobs — including event managers, band contractors, security, band roadies, ticket sales, internal promoters, external promoters, program creators, T-shirt design and T-shirt sales,” said DiDonna, a social studies teacher and Class of 2012 adviser and Battle of the Bands coordinator.

“The hardest step of the Battle of the Bands is raising money for the sound equipment,” DiDonna said. “But this year we had a vast amount of support from the community ... having well over 50 sponsors all producing $25 to $50 donations.”

This year’s proceeds are going to benefit former Kingston High School student Keith Gurgui. Gurgui, a 2009 graduate of the high school, suffered a spinal cord injury in a swimming accident last summer. He is scheduled to attend the event.

DiDonna said that the event previously raised money for Family of Woodstock and the Children’s Annex. “We only sold 350 tickets” in the first year, DiDonna said, adding that the following year, almost all of the 700 tickets were sold. “We are hoping that this year will be the most successful year yet,” he said.

Tickets are $9 at the door and $7 in advance, to purchase tickets in advance call DiDonna at (845) 331- 1970. Labels:
